From one Valentine's Day to the next

Here they are, all three of my Valentines:

It's hard to believe how much has changed since last Valentine's Day in the White house.

Here we are, a couple days before V-Day last year, celebrating the holiday with a delicious dinner at The Palisades Restaurant.

Ah, young love, just the two of us.  If you look very closely, you will see a tiny glimmer in my eye, or a little smirk in my grin, because it was on this day that I was getting a tiny hunch that our lives were about to change big time.  But I definitely didn't share my hunch with anyone - especially Danny - so as not to freak anyone out.  It was just a hunch after all.

Valentine's Day, 2011: the hunch is no longer a hunch.  I took the test, saw the positive result, but couldn't believe it.  So the next day I went and got a digital-read test, since my eyes were probably just deceiving me.  C'mon people, I drank carrots by the pound growing up.  But, like my 20/13 vision, the digital test does not lie.

I told Danny that night.  I wrapped up some tiny VT booties and told him I had a "little Valentine's Day present" for him, just that it was one day late.  Emphasis on the "little."  As he opened the box and stared down at them, I remember him repeating "Ok.  OKAY!  OK?  Ooooookay, " in different intonations about five thousand times.

He still periodically scolds me for playing it down and calling it a "little gift."  I still think it's pretty funny, but he's right.  It actually was the biggest gift either of us has ever gotten.

Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from him. (Psalm 127:3)

 Happy Valentine's Day!
