Who's that you say? No, it's not her real name, but rather my favorite nickname, which comes from her AIM screen name way back when. Do people even remember what AIM was? Moving right along... Let's take a walk down memory lane, shall we?
I met Elissa before our freshman year at VT even started. Her older sister and my friend Shana were friends, and they had conspired beforehand to set us up, knowing we would be perfect friends for each other. We were both PR Comm majors (before I dropped it... oops), both loved Spanish.. match made in heaven.
Unfortunately, the day we met, the story goes that we both left thinking "She doesn't like me." Oh, freshman insecurity.
Thankfully we got a second go at things when I met Dionne a few weeks later, Elissa's friend from high school. Finally, we hit it off and the three of us were inseparable for the remainder of college. Until I peaced out a semester early to get married, but that's another story for another day. :)
We were baby freshmen together...
Took road trips together... (this was like 2 days after I met Danny! woot!)
Tried our hand at modeling...
And of course had plenty of embarrassingly awkward photos to document our fun times.
Imagine my delight when life's turns brought Elissa and Bryce BACK to live in the same town as us!
They are now expecting baby Whited, pretty much any day. I was thrilled to host a shower here, which was a new experience for me. I've co-thrown many showers (sometimes with as many as 5 hostesses, which is just a breeze!), and even held a low-key "Sprinkle" last spring here for Adrienne's 2nd baby. But never before by myself have I thrown a true first-baby-shower-and-it-has-to-be-special-or-else.
In the age of Pinterest and blogs, it's admittedly difficult not to get caught up in unrealistic expectations of how beautiful and intricate a shower MUST.BE. I'm not particularly creative or crafty, nor am I a great cook. I also had a tight budget to work with. Sounds like a winning combo doesn't it? hahah. I do think it actually turned out well, and I'll soon do a post on hosting a Not Pinterest Worthy But Still Cute and Fun Shower.
And I just have to mention that we love the name they've picked. Madison Whited. It's just meant to be that she and Addison White will be dear friends, too. C'mon little Maddie, Addie and the rest of us are ready to meet you!
The shower looks super cute and you two look adorable! :)
ReplyDeleteIt was so fun!! THANK YOU, sweet friend!
ReplyDeleteWish I had been there! I have a friend from college whose email was littlet@whatever(that part doesn't matter). Only I read it as Lit Let. 2 separate words. Not as little t. Her name is Teresa and she is really little/short hence the little t. For the longest time I was so confused why her email was Lit Let until she finally explained it and then I always called her that. (lit let) Elissa's AIM name reminded me of that! So funny!
ReplyDeleteThis looks like a FABULOUS shower and you should be proud! =) You gals are so cute!!
ReplyDeleteI'm so sad I missed it!! Elissa you look super cute and Mere you did a GREAT job on the shower
