Our boy

I thought I'd dedicate today to a little photo tribute to some of my favs of Aslan over the past 2 years, since soon I will have a new subject to post pictures of!

7 weeks old, his first night home!

Confession: this is how I spent my entire summer.

Danny loves to tease me about how I treat Aslan.  He says I've turned him into a girl, that I've made him too "soft" (emotionally), etc.  Problem is, he also does his fair share of spoiling and babying, and definitely has no room to hate.  I'll let the pictures do the talking...

Yes, they are sitting in the computer chair together having a photo shoot with PhotoBooth.  This is one of many shots taken that night.

Regardless of who spoils him more, Aslan has definitely been an awesome addition to the White House.  We got him as a 7 week pup, and couldn't have imagined what a mellow, sweet boy he'd turn out to be.  He's got tons of nicknames, but "Golden Recliner" and "Laz-zy" (a play on Lazy and Azzie.. uhh get it?) seem to emulate his personality best.  Speaking of, he's hardly an early riser - I took this shot the other morning as I was literally BEGGING him to come on downstairs for his morning run with me:

Totally typical.

My mom is reading a book about dogs, and shared some interesting bits with me.  Did you know that dogs are more sensitive than any other creature to read man's emotions?  (When I shared this with Danny, he quickly retorted, "what about monkeys and apes?" I'm not a zoologist and have no clue so I'm gonna stick with the book being right).  The book also explained why dogs love humans and why humans love dogs.  All dogs are somehow traced back to wolves, and wolves learned that to be around human hunters was to get more food.  So dogs love humans because we give them food.  Yeah, very romantic, but I'm sure Aslan would agree wholeheartedly and would gladly run off with any old person/serial killer if they had treats.  Apparently humans are much sweeter about the whole relationship... we love dogs, because psychologically, we are hard-wired to love and care for babies (and other young, helpless things - like the time I brought home a turtle when I was 12 and that darn thing is STILL ALIVE to this day), and dogs have many of the characteristics of a young baby.  So thousands of years of best friendship was born.  C'est l'amour...I do look forward to introducing our "first son" to our actual daughter next month, and can't wait to see how they take to each other.  I'm hoping for BFF and will do everything possible to make that happen.

In other news, I saw a coyote today just beyond my parents' backyard.  It was scary and gross.  Not love.

So do you love a dog?  Does a dog love you?  (translation: do you currently feed a dog?)  Count yourself among the lucky ones.. they sure do brighten our lives!
