House progress

I'm overdue to share some White House progress!

Since we moved in just before Addison was born, the house quickly fell to the back burner (for good reason).  Not to mention Danny is living like 3 lives right now, so he's just crazy busy, and I'm not exactly that handy without some major help.

We've done some little things since moving in like replacing overhead light fixtures (which I REALLY wish I had before/afters of.  These were some of the most disgusting, ugly fixtures I've seen!), but just recently we got a gust of desperation inspiration and tackled a few things.  Many more projects are in the "dream phase" right now, but here's what we've done so far:

Painted the guest room.  No before pics of that either, but just imagine completely white and now it's a shade of dark khaki.  Looks sweet if you ask me.  I haven't taken a picture of the full "after," but here's the worst picture ever of Addie.  Notice beautiful walls behind instead, please.

Actually, here's a picture of Addison's walls, which are the same color.  No, her room does not still look like this picture, we did (mostly) finish it.

One weekend, I got the urge to rip down the nasty wallpaper in the half bathroom.  Lucky for me, it was super old and bad so it came off in tiny strips and took forever!!  Note to former owners: wallpaper is really really annoying.  No really, you shouldn't have.

oh foolish one, you have no clue what lies ahead...
making progress
sorta
finally done!

There's lots more to do in there, like replacing the baseboard, painting, and installing the new light/mirror/towel rack.  We HAVE it all, just gotta do it.

That same day, Danny painted the dining room.  The dining/living rooms are really just one huge room with a step in between, so the living room will hopefully soon be this same color.

No, he didn't forget the bottom half.  Its future was wainscoating!

We are sooo thankful for Danny's parents.  They drove up from FL in their new Mustang, the trunk literally packed to the brim with tools.  Bill worked incredibly hard to transform the dining room in a weekend!

It started with lots of marks on the wall.  I was scared.

Next, we took the raw wood wainscoating, sanded it, and painted it white.

The guys did a lot of powerful, manly things like make zillions of cuts with an electric saw, use a nail gun, and just HAD to make extra trips to Home Depot (wonder why?).

I was battling a hard-and-fast hitting cold Saturday, so I think I was negative help that day.

Thankfully, Sunday I felt much better, so I was back to work, as were other helpers!  I even stuck my finger in an electrical outlet and was electrocuted for the first time in my life!  Awesome!

By Sunday evening, the room was done.  We are reeallly excited with how it turned out!  It wouldn't have happened without our fearless leader and his handsome son!

before...

after!

Danny's dad also made this little bookshelf. We just painted it white and it works great in here!

So now the rest of the house just really needs to catch up!  Eek!
