This was my first birthday as a mom. Yes, diapers still need to be changed on your special day, and no, Addison didn't get the memo that people like to sleep late on their birthdays. Other than that, it didn't change much except that I now realize, after experiencing labor and the joy of childbirth, that birthdays are probably just as much about your mom as it is about you. So thanks, mom, for all you endured and accomplished that day to bring a person into this world (me!).
To start things off, last weekend, my mom took me on a little shopping trip to update my wardrobe. I have totally been in a clothing RUT. Poor Danny. Now that I don't work outside our happy little home, I run low on motivation to wear anything besides running clothes. A goal for this year is that I hope to put forth a little more energy into how I look. At least two days a week. Just kidding! I'll try for three! :D
On the actual day, things were pretty low-key because Danny had to work all day. Addison and I partied it up though, dancing to Disney songs. I'll take this girl any day in a dance competition.
Danny, despite being really busy, pulled off a very special weekend. He told me that he wanted us to do all the crazy things we used to B.C. (before child), and I thoroughly enjoyed all of it. Friday night, he arranged a babysitter (grandparents) and we had a night out - dinner at my favorite Mexican restaurant, and the VT men's soccer game. Saturday morning, we got up early, dropped Addison at our friends' (thank you Dan and Mary!) and went for a long run at Pandapas just the two of us! It was amazing. Saturday night, we had desserts and games with friends here, which was great fun and Mary made my new favorite cake, which I want on every birthday here on out.

Early Saturday morning, Elissa had baby Madison! I got to visit them right before the party on Saturday afternoon. They were doing great and Elissa totally rocked a really long labor and looked fresh as a spring chicken. Madison and Addison can finally begin their friendship - we'll be arranging an apartment for college soon.
Hard to top such a great birthweek. I am feeling very blessed and thankful for my family and friends. Thanks to everyone for making it so memorable!! Here I come, 22! (heheh)
Happy birthday! Let's get our kids together soon so Addison can teach Luke some moves. :)
ReplyDeletehappy birthday! i wanted to tell you, i'm not an only child (i'm a middle child, which is probably the worst of all) and i celebrate a birth MONTH!
ReplyDeletealso, i get you with the wardrobe rut. first i didn't buy clothes because i was pregnant, then post-partum, now i'm just lazy. this is how moms become frumpy. exhibit A: amanda k.
