The one where I post 5 months late

Do you know what's funny?  I have been meaning to do a post on Addison's birthday party since the day after it.  Yeah, that birthday, back almost 5 months ago.

Me and the blog haven't really been jiving lately.  Who knows why.  I think the whole one-nap-a-day thing is okay schedule-wise (except when it's less than 1.5 hours like this whole week because THAT IS TOO SHORT), but definitely leaves a lot less time to myself. Which is how I can go months without really posting.

Without delving into a blog identity crisis, HERE IS HER BIRTHDAY PARTY POST!!!  With lots of pictures and a few words:

My mother- and sister-in-law worked as my personal minions to prepare all of the snacks the night before, since I was, you know, running a half marathon the morning of the party.  I chose a lemon cake recipe from Annie's Eats (the theme was "You Are My Sunshine" so lemon cake seemed appropriate!  Oddly, I had picked the theme already, and when I searched for the right lemon cake recipe, I found that Annie had made this cake for a party of the SAME theme.)  Here are some of the zillion cupcakes, pre-frosting:

I am by no means an accomplished baker OR cake decorator, so  I was pretty happy with how Addie's homemade smash cake turned out (lemon cake also, with vanilla bean frosting).  Behind is a 4-slot frame with the "ONE" series of photos I took, which I really love.

All foods were yellow themed:

My friend Cindi helped me get started on the yellow-and-gray banners, which really were the starting point of the party theme inspiration.

I hung all of Addie's monthly photos on this twine, starting with her ultrasound through 12 months.

It's hard to see the table sign because of the lighting, but sweet Elissa made it for me with her photoshopping skills!  Just had to pop it into a frame I already had.

Happy family - do I look exhausted?  Because I was.  Remember I ran a race that morning?

Pre-cake... such anticipation.  This should go amazing.

It's time!  Surely she will eat it all!  And bury her face in it! And fall over in a sugar-induced coma!  What a lucky girl, to be given cake and frosting!

Aaand she really could not have cared less about eating it.  I think we wiped that tiny bit of frosting on her face so it would LOOK like she ate some.

Mashing it was fun though.  Should've guessed my completely indifferent eater wouldn't be motivated even by sugary goodness.

Sharing it with mom and dad was cool too.

With her first friend, Adrienne, who helped deliver her!!

We are so blessed with wonderful friends and family to help celebrate.

Finally, I couldn't get over this next series, and naturally had to make it a meme.

Phew, glad that's done before she turned 2!  And one small thing off my blog to-do list...

  1. love it! better late than never :) i agree, dropping to one nap was a HUGE time adjustment for me, too. even if he napped 3 hours (meaning naptime was the same amount of time) it was still really hard. it's when i stopped brushing my teeth in the morning!! (sigh, he also decided to drop his nap during a week when tom was out of town. i'd forgotten that terrible memory).
happy late birhtday addie, it looks like an awesome time and a GREAT celebration!

    1. Thanks Amanda! This post was so late, it's basically time to start planning her 2nd birthday... haha. As for the one nap thing, yeaaah. We've been rockin it since about 9 months (though I didn't start only putting her down for one until 13 mos) and it's STILL hard some days for me to adjust!
