In case you're living in a hole, or don't live in Southwest Virginia, or don't know anyone who lives in Southwest Virginia, I want to tell you something very important:
It snowed here yesterday.
Our local meteorologists (our fave is Leeeeooo Hirssssbruuunnnneeerrrr) totally missed this one. We were expecting rain. It was actually a pretty nice morning, and then the rain clouds rolled in. My girl took less than an hour-long nap (also known as: why even bother?), so since it was going to be rainy and we had a looong stretch til dinner, I decided she and I would tackle the guest bathroom wallpaper removal. That's a fun and educational sensory activity, right??

Then my "helper" wandered off (it's so hard to find good help these days), climbed up on the guest bed and started yelling "Nnnoo! NO! NOO!!"
Man, what a grump! "Addie, I know you didn't nap very long, but Mommy wants you to stop saying 'no.' How about 'YESS?'"
"Nooo!" "NNOO!"
I put down my sponge and scraper and looked at her. Then past her, out the window.
Snow. Wait, snow?! Ooohh. That's what she was saying.
I have put our snow boots away for the year 3 times now. But not getting them out wasn't an option. Of course we had to go play in it, because if there's anything this child loves, it's being outside in the "Nnno!"
My luck in grabbing this shot was stellar. I sprinted out the door before them, turned around just in time, and snap!
I love it because it sums up nicely the two possible reactions to this crazy weather phenom on April 4. (It also happens to capture both of their personalities spot-on.) Most people felt like my pal on the right (me included at first), but I'm really working on reacting more like the goofball on the left.
We practiced catching the flakes:
Made snowballs with the neighbors:
And generally enjoyed the scenery. Because really, it was beautiful. Even in April.
Aslan wanted me to post these next two, to clear up that he does actually like the snow, once he's out in it. Kind of like jumping in a chilly pool. Except way colder.
And today? It's 48 degrees, sunny, and I'm kind of sweating. All but a couple patches in the shade have melted.
Good thing I have the photos to prove it! We'll be like, "Remember back in 2013 when...."

Happy Spring to you and yours!

seriously laughed out loud about Leo Hirsbrunner! We imitate the way he says his name every time we see him! Hilarious!
ReplyDeleteGood seeing you this morning even though we didn't get to chat. hope you prayerfully consider steering next year! i would love to get to know you more =)
Funny post
ReplyDeleteYa'll are a hoot (yes, all of you, and yes I did say that...just popped in my head and seemed like a perfectly fitting comment!). Great post and narration. I couldn't believe it snowed. And I, unlike you, did not take any cool photos so we will just forget it happened. So happy about the sunshine today, and I can't wait for the beautiful weather coming up this week! :)
