So as I already bragged on in the previous post, I'm pretty sure we had the absolute best team delivering Addison at Carilion NRV Medical Center. Danny and I both couldn't get over how well-cared for we felt during the delivery, but it definitely didn't stop there! First of all, the rooms are SO comfortable, big, and are totally stocked with everything you need for pre-, during- and post-delivery. The nurses were super, tending to our every need, and the food wasn't even that bad! The hospital even has a full-time massage therapist, who visits every day for a full massage!! (she was even there during the thick of the craziness of labor, massaging me away for over an hour).
Post-labor, I was really really sore, and moving around took for-ev-er. Even the simplest things required major energy, especially getting up and down. And if you're a mom or have ever seen a mom, getting up and down is pretty much a necessity. Enter, superdad. I'm sure he wouldn't mind me sharing that only 2 months ago did he even come NEAR babies, and has always been pretty timid, really avoiding all holding, mostly because in his words: "Their necks! They're just like... wet noodles!"
But look at him here, acting like a total pro just an hour after she was born!!
While I was on the mend, Danny took complete control, doing all the diaper changing, swaddling, and fetching of baby for me when it was time for her to eat. I could not be more proud of this daddy, nor more impressed with how instantly his dad instincts kicked in full-strength. His girls love him so much!!
Another fun part about the hospital was all our visitors. I didn't get a photo of everyone who stopped by, but here are a few!

My dear friend Kimberly, who has been so excited and supportive throughout the last 9 months |

Aunt Lissy! She wanted to share a birthday month with Addie and it happened! |

Dan and Mary, who are expecting late February. Yay babies!

So while sometimes the check-ins and screenings and check-ups got overwhelming, we were so happy with our stay, and actually a little sad to leave their wonderful care!

Next update... life at home with newborn Addison!
meredith - i've loved reading about your experiences! i wanted to tell you, i totally agree with what you said about how hard it was to move around. i visited my sister in the hospital after she had her third and she was bouncing around everywhere! my mom said it gets easier after your first :)
ReplyDeleteAND tom did the same thing as danny, he learned how to swaddle, bathe, EVERYTHING. i was just immobile in bed, dreading the next time i had to move. so thankful for good daddies!
AND i was a little sad to leave the hospital, too.
