Dear Will,
On April 25, you turned month young!! Sadly, you won't remember any of the first months (or even years) of your life, which is why I want to help document them. I'm sure some things are better that you don't remember (Like being born? That can't be pleasant), but other things should be remembered.
People seem to feel sorry for second (and subsequent) children. Not as many photos, your schedule gets thrown off by older siblings,
OK, so let's start way back in July, when we learned you were coming. God brings all kinds of surprises and blesses His people in unexpected and beautiful ways. You, my sweet son, were that beautiful way. After months of tears and two very painful heartaches, God brought us you. We are so very thankful for you. Never forget how much we prayed for you, and how much we hoped for you. You came at just the right time, and your little life has already brought us so much joy.

First full smile the day you turned one month! |
And what a JOY you are. Your birth was exciting and dramatic, but in general, you're pretty drama-free. At a month old it's hard to tell too much "long term" personality-wise, but so far you are easy-going, sweet, and... sleepy. :) You love to eat, and make sure you get in plenty of meals - especially at night. No, in all reality nights aren't bad. You usually are asleep between 8:30 and 9 and sleep until 7:30 or 8, and typically get up twice to eat. One day last week I resolved that we'd work towards getting up only once. That night you woke up to eat 5 times... Joke's on me. Two times is just fine! I promise to never set such goals again!
In addition to eating, you love to sleep. Your sister had me convinced that all babies stayed awake all.day.long and this notion that "newborns sleep all the time" was a flat-out lie. You fit the sleepy stereotype though, and I can't say I'm complaining. After a nice, long nap, you tend to stay awake about 45 minutes to an hour, and then are out for another nice, long nap. Must be rough.
Speaking of sister... you're pretty enthralled by her. She's trying to do a good job being gentle and somewhat quiet with you, but even when she's a little crazy, you don't seem to mind. I cannot wait to see how your relationship unfolds over the coming months and years. And in case you both forget in the future, she is SO in love with you right now.

poor younger brother. |
And yes, you two do look alike.
The only thing you seem to really not prefer right now is the car seat and car. Why my kids won't sleep in the car, I'll never know. It would be helpful if we could make that happen, at least occasionally.
Finally, what can I say? I'm a sucker for cross-eyed newborns:
Sweet William, we cannot express how happy we are you're here, and how excited we are for all the ways you will add to our little family. You are a treasure, and we love you!!!
Happy 1 month!
these photos are so beautiful!
ReplyDeletehappy 1-month to william. and i was nodding at the part about being a less anxious mom. absolutely!
by the way -- i was going to be mad if he gave you a night with only one wake-up! mary virginia still isn't doing that! (although...she's definitely old enough to know better...)
Thanks Amanda! It's nice to be less anxious, isn't it? Though it's always still a battle for me on certain things. Mary Virginia just loves being with her mommy. Who can blame her?? :)
DeleteSo sweet!! Thanks for sharing :) I love reading your blog and am excited to hear about how Will's personality transforms as he grows up!
ReplyDeleteLovely photos and post!
